Enjoying a swim in the city
Amongst Berlin's numerous lakes, Schlachtensee is a long-standing favourite. Located in south-west Berlin, it features a beach, boat rental and dining options. You'll also find peaceful sections of shore perfect for jogging along, or simply relaxing. Krumme Lanke is also in the south west of the city, and is much loved for its clean water and picturesque setting on the edge of the Grunewald Forest. In the north of Berlin, you'll find Plötzensee, popular with swimmers, while Tegelersee features seven islands and is a particularly idyllic location for boating. Weißensee, in the north east, is a haven for families, while you'll find countless stunning lakes on Berlin's outskirts. For a day at the beach, on the fringes of the city, head to Strandbad Wannsee, featuring a sandy beach and safe swimming areas.
