A photo exhibition from the Mediterranean

Every year, thousands of refugees make the dangerous crossing of the Mediterranean Sea in search of safety and a better life. But for many, this journey ends fatally: in the last ten years, more than 28,000 people have lost their lives in the Mediterranean on their way to Europe.

Photojournalist Arez Ghaderi is familiar with this reality at close quarters.

During his first year in Germany, he himself lived in several refugee camps and heard the stories of people who had left everything behind them. In December 2022, he accompanied an SOS Humanity rescue mission and captured the moments of the sea rescue in powerful images.

The exhibition is a joint project of the Münzenberg Forum Berlin and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and is taking place as part of the EMOP Berlin – European Month of Photography.
