Drawn with fire
With the special exhibition 50 Years of Cornelia Nagel - Drawn with Fire, the Samurai Museum Berlin celebrates an extraordinary German artist and presents her contemporary interpretation of traditional Raku ceramics.
Cornelia Nagel, a pioneer of the raku technique for five decades, combines the Japanese art form with a modern, individual signature in her work, which unfolds the heritage and lively expressiveness of raku ceramics in a new way.
Under the subtitle Raku: From Development to Modernity, this exhibition is a lively dialog between tradition and the present. The presented works from Cornelia Nagel's extensive oeuvre are in direct confrontation with selected objects from the renowned collection of Ulrich Vollmer.
This historical collection provides an insight into the origins and philosophy of raku art, while Nagel's works translate the forms and techniques into a contemporary language and at the same time celebrate the essence of raku - the fleeting moment of creation.
