Street food in Berlin

Food on every corner

High-quality ingredients, exotic flavours and a relaxed atmosphere: street food is an integral part of everyday life in Berlin. Whether relaxed at markets and festivals, when time is short in everyday life or to satisfy hunger on a night out. Currywurst and doner kebabs alone both originated in Berlin and have long since achieved cult status.

Berliner Currywurst

The Currywurst started its triumphal march out of a Berlin kiosk. Today, you can enjoy the street food classic in countless takeaways across the city, from Witty's Currywurst in Schöneberg to Konnopke's Imbiss in Pankow. With or without fries, red or white or even vegan: it tastes a little different at every stall. Anyone who is anyone has their own secret recipe for the homemade curry sauce and a well-chosen sausage supplier. But the most important question in Berlin still remains: with or without skin?

Curry61 - Hackescher Markt

Quality you can taste is the motto of Curry61 and we agree with the guys and gals. If you're hungry for curry sausage in Mitte, you should definitely stop by Curry61 at Hackescher Markt. At Curry 61 you get quality from the region. Currywurst & fries (also vegan) with homemade curry sauce - a dream.

Döner Kebab is a Berlin original. A Turkish guest worker invented the snack in Berlin in the 1970s. Today, you can find the combination of juicy grilled meat from a skewer, fresh salad and spicy sauce in a crispy flatbread on almost every corner. Bite your way through the kebab in famous stalls such as Mustafa's vegetable-Kebab on Mehringdamm or Vöner in Friedrichshain.

Vegan street food

No other city in Germany has so many purely vegan and vegetarian restaurants like Berlin. Many vegan options are also available in the street food sector. Virtually no snack bar, street vendor or street food stall can do without a vegan or vegetarian alternative. Both the Berlin classics mentioned above and exotic specialities can be enjoyed without animal products. Find out all about the hotspots for sustainable food in Berlin.
