Willy Brandt Dialogue 2024

Transatlantic relations have certainly been tested by storms. After Donald Trump's presidency, Joe Biden brought "the West" closer together again.

Nevertheless, Europe and Germany will be required to show a much higher level of personal responsibility and commitment to security policy in the future. In economic policy, too, the USA has increasingly pursued its own interests in recent years.

After the US presidential election in November, these developments are likely to continue - and not only if Donald Trump is elected. Democrat Kamala Harris will also be under considerable domestic political pressure, which will have an impact on foreign policy.

How is the USA positioning itself in Russia's war against Ukraine and what role does NATO play in this?

What security policy requirements must Europe and Germany face? How are trade relations and the struggle for a rules-based world order developing?

These questions are the focus of the Willy Brandt Discussion 2024. Around a week after the US presidential election, we look at the future of transatlantic relations with, among others, the Federal Government's Transatlantic Coordinator, Michael Link, the US historian Michael Kimmage and Daniela Schwarzer, Board Member of the Bertelsmann Foundation.

Harald Asel from rbb24 Inforadio will moderate.

The opening speech will be given by former President of the Bundestag Wolfgang Thierse.

rbb24 Inforadio will record the discussion and broadcast it in the "Forum" series. Inforadio can be heard in Berlin on FM 93.1 MHz and on digital radio.
