With over 2,500 exhibits—more than ever before—the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection is on display in the north wing of the Neues Museum, spanning three floors and covering an area of 3,600 square meters.

The concept and design of the exhibition provide a comprehensive insight into the continuity and transformation of ancient Egyptian culture over four millennia, as well as into the cultural history of ancient Sudan.

Through the reconstruction of several burial chambers, the funerary architecture and relief art of the Old Kingdom are presented in a unique way. In addition to exploring various cultural themes such as the cult of the dead and the gods, kingship, and daily life, the history of Egyptology as a discipline is also presented and explained for the first time.

In the “Library of Antiquity,” the papyrus collection displays a large selection of highly significant texts and literary works spanning the entire period of ancient Egyptian to late antique written culture.

A particular focus of the exhibition concept is on conveying the ancient Egyptian view of humanity through sculptures arranged in several rooms according to different perspectives, the highlight of which is the presentation of the bust of Nefertiti in the North Dome Hall of the Neues Museum.

A permanent exhibition of the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection of the State Museums in Berlin.
