Marten Straßenberg - Based on the novel by Lukas Rietzschel
Philipp and Tobi, two brothers, grow up in the countryside, a small town in the Saxon province in the early 2000s. On the edge of the village, their parents build a single-family home. They start school. Grandpa talks about the past, the fireclay factory, in whose canteen you could always get a beer. Suddenly there's an explosion. Dismantling in the East. The last remnants of the GDR are disappearing. As the factory falls apart, the town and the family are falling apart.
In his search for a sense of belonging, Philipp, now a teenager, first finds a connection with a group of boys around the older leader Menzel. Here he can provoke the adults. Drink his first beer. To do this, he accepts escalations in violence. There are hardly any other prospects in the village anyway. Tobi also becomes part of Menzel's clique and finds support and explanations for his feeling of loss of control here. He wants to defend himself, save his village and feels himself in resistance, eventually also towards Philipp. They hit with their fists. We point our fingers at them in outrage. What perspective do we have on the brothers and their place? History of radicalization in the East? We all already know that.
