Teto Tofu

Sustainable organic tofu from Lichtenberg

Tofu is not just a substitute product, it can also inspire. That is the philosophy behind the small, passionate company, Teto Tofu, from Lichtenberg. And, tofu is produced here in a particularly sustainable way using organic soya beans from Germany.

It is not necessary for rainforests to be cut down for soya production and the environment doesn’t have to suffer. Soya grown in Germany has an overall positive environmental balance, as it binds nitrogen in the soil and fertilises itself, so to speak. In addition to the short transport routes, the tofu from Teto Tofu also scores with its lovingly handcrafted production, which the team itself learnt in Japan according to old traditions. This quality has also convinced several starred restaurants in Berlin.

Another special feature of Teto Tofu is its environmentally friendly packaging: The company sells all its products without plastic packaging. Instead, glass jars are used for retail and markets. Reusable packaging is used in catering and in unpackaged shops.

You can discover the tofu produced in Berlin-Lichtenberg at the weekly markets held every Saturday on Kollwitzplatz and Boxhagener Platz. The products are also available in unpackaged shops in Schöneberg, Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. Besides tofu, the range also includes Kinako soya bean flour, fermented soya beans called natto, fermented tempeh and flavoured smoked tofu.
