The best art houses in Berlin
Since 1998, the Gemäldegalerie has been housed in a new building on Matthäikirchplatz just to the west of Potsdamer Platz and across the street from the Philharmonie. The 7,000 m² of display space at the museum is devoted to paintings from the 13th to 18th centuries. You can admire contemporary art at the Martin-Gropius-Bau near Potsdamer Platz. Those interested in politics can embark on an artistic journey through the history of social democracy at Willy-Brandt-Haus. Pieces from as far back as the 3rd century including sculptures from Italy and Germany are on display at Museum for Byzantine Art.
