in the district of Pankow

From May 2 to June 1, 2025, the 9th edition of the artspring art festival will transform the district of Pankow into a stage for various types of artists throughout the month of May. With over 350 participating artists, the multifaceted program of numerous events and several exhibitions covers a broad spectrum of Pankow's art production.

With painting, graphic art, photography, performance, sculpture, video and installation, the visual arts are represented in all disciplines and are supplemented by the fields of film and literature in curated series of events. The festival sets a new focus with an extensive sound art and sound program: with concerts, sound performances and installations, radiophonic art, radio plays and a specially operated radio channel that goes on air at weekends, the entire range of artistic sound design is presented on site and online.

The central venue this year is the Theater unterm Dach, with the festival program extending to other venues such as the Pankow Town Hall, the gallery and cinema in the Brotfabrik, the Magistrale of the Park-Klinik, the Bornholm small gardens and the PopUpStore in the Rathaus-Center Pankow.

With this year's title ['apga, fakt] - something is broken here, the art festival focuses thematically on the already emerging effects of the cuts by the Senate of Culture on the situation of the city's artists. Most visual artists see these developments as a serious threat to their future artistic work. For many, the situation is already of existential importance due to the consequences of spreading crises.

Due to the city's acute lack of space and the drastic reduction in the number of studio spaces with each passing year, the creative basis for visual artists is increasingly disappearing. The recent suspension of the Fund for Exhibition Fees (FABiK) by the Senate Administration jeopardizes the proper remuneration of artistic work. The future prospects for Berlin's artistic vitality are darkening dramatically. With an ambitious program, artspring berlin makes visible the rich artistic potential of Pankow and Berlin, which must now be fought for and saved.

The program is free of charge with the exception of some events in the Theater unterm Dach, which take place on a donation basis.
