The first Sunday of the month is free of charge at around 60 Berlin museums! These include the buildings on Berlin's Museum Island, the Humboldt Forum, Museum für Naturkunde, Jewish Museum, Gemäldegalerie and many more.

Latest news from Berlin's Museums

Take advantage of the summer opening times of major museums on Museum Island: The Neue Museum and the James-Simon-Galerie are open until 1 September, Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9am to 8pm.

Tip: Visit the Kolonnaden Bar on Museum Island (1 August to 1 September). On the northernmost tip of the Museum Island, directly on the Spree, good drinks and a stimulating entertainment programme invite you to linger from 4 pm on Thursdays to Sundays.

Visit the new city museum hotspots in the historic centre of Berlin, in the Nikolai Quarter: Museum Knoblauchhaus, Museum Nikolaikirche and Museum Ephraim-Palais, which houses the BerlinZeit exhibition on the history of the city.

The Käthe Kollwitz Museum in the theatre building of Charlottenburg Palace Park cannot be overlooked: The large bronze sculpture of the world-famous artist, created by Gustav Seitz, now stands directly in front of the entrance.

New Museums in Berlin

In the last two years, the Deutschlandmuseum and the Fotografiska have opened their doors in Berlin and the Charité Medical History Museum is once again inviting visitors to discover 300 years of medical history, completely renovated and with new exhibitions.

  • The Käthe Kollwitz Museum Berlin in the theatre building at Charlottenburg Palace will present new exhibition rooms on the first floor in spring 2025. 
  • At the old location of the Käthe Koowitz Museum in Fasanenstraße, you will now find the new Exilmuseum Workshop: it invites you to find out more about the future Exilmuseum at Anhalter Bahnhof and to get involved. It is due to be inaugurated in 2026.
