Information, organisations and services

Whether staying in Berlin for a holiday or an extended period, the range of practical information for LGBTQ+ visitors is impressive, and includes specific advice and counselling services as well as information on entertainment venues. LSVD is a great starting point, offering access to many services. TrIQ specialises in trans and intersex issues, while Lesbenberatung is directed at lesbian and bisexual women. Those visiting Berlin for short stays will likely want to check out the Schöneberg district in the south west of the city. Here you'll find a great concentration of LGBTQ+ friendly bars, clubs, and events including Gay Pride in July.

BAH – Berliner Aids-Hilfe e.V.

Berliner Aidshilfe (BAH) is regularly very active in Berlin on World AIDS Day, 1 December, when many volunteers are out and about in the city with donation tins. But the organisation also offers advice services for HIV positive people throughout the year and carries out educational work about HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Gladt

Gladt, which stands for Gays and Lesbians from Turkey, is an association dedicated to fighting diverse forms of discrimination. It offers a contact point and competent advice, not just for Berliners with Turkish roots.

House of Queer Sisters e.V.

The House of Queer Sisters e.V. is a registered non-profit organisation working in the field of HIV/AIDS health care. In addition to distributing condoms, the organisation raises funds for numerous projects and offer partnerships with other organisations working on HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. Members of the House of Queer Sisters e.V. go to wherever they are needed and engage in personal conversations with their target audience to share their tips and experiences. They find it important to be available for everyone they encounter and to treat everyone with respect and tolerance.

Lesbenberatung

The range of services offered by Lesbenberatung Berlin is impressively extensive and diverse. The services here can help ease whatever concerns anyone has. There are various different groups dealing with issues such as coming out and relationships. Lesbenberatung focuses on advice for women with migration backgrounds, among other things. Lesbian and bisexual women, as well as transgender women, are very welcome in the one-on-one advice sessions, whether it's about a severe crisis situation or a "smaller" issue.

LSVD – Lesbian and Gay Association Berlin-Brandenburg

The LSVD is very active throughout Germany as a lobby organisation for gays and lesbians. Its regional group offers many advice services and, as well as its political work, also organises regular panel discussions, sports events, and workshops for disseminators. The aim of the LSVD is always to bring people together and fight discrimination. As well as this social and political work, the LSVD Berlin-Brandenburg also provides a contact point for all issues relating to gay and lesbian life.

Magazine Siegessäule

In Berlin, the Siegessäule (Victory Column) is not just a column in the Tiergarten park, it's also the name of the queer city magazine. The monthly magazine, which is available free of charge at over 1,000 locations, offers a comprehensive queer calendar of events and lots of cultural and political topics that move the LGBTQ+ community.

Sonntagsclub

This used to be a gay friendship group in the GDR that met regularly on Sundays. Only the location in Prenzlauer Berg still remains the same. Nowadays, the Sonntagsclub is a meeting place, café, and cultural centre for lesbians, gays, transgender people, and their friends. Here, people can party and talk in an informal atmosphere.

TrIQ – TransInterQueer e.V.

Transsexuality and intersexuality are issues that are receiving greater attention and being more openly discussed than in the past, both within and outside the LGBT community. Transgender people are present in films and on panel discussions. But the need for advice services for transsexual or intersexual people is still strong, and even disseminators have a lot of questions and need sources of information. The TrIQ association provides information and advice both in individual advice sessions and through events.
