For the European Month of Photography (EMOP) 2025, we are bringing the fascinating photographs of Libuše Jarcovjáková to Berlin. Her images from Prague's legendary T-Club in the 1980s depict a haven for the queer community amidst the repressive atmosphere of the communist regime.

Libuše Jarcovjáková: The Prague T-Club in Pictures

The exhibition presents 40 photographs (1983–1985) documenting life in the club—between exuberant fun, lived identity, and the omnipresent threat of state security. Jarcovjáková's sensitive images speak of freedom in bondage, of hope, and the courage to live in the moment despite all adversities.

The Czech photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková (*1952) became internationally known through her works "Černé roky" (2017) and "Evokativ" (2019). In 2024, the National Gallery in Prague will dedicate a retrospective to her work, and a documentary film about her premiered at the Berlinale.
