Do you enjoy being creative? Want to learn more about Islamic art? Are you interested in geometric shapes and how they are created with straw? Then you've come to the right place!

Immerse yourself in another chapter of Islamic art. Together, participants will explore the principles of geometric patterns and discover how an octagonal star is designed. They will then recreate the star or other patterns using dyed straw.

Using examples from Islamic art history, participants will learn the traditional techniques for cutting and laying straw. Artist and educator Ghaidaa Kotb will lead the workshop.

After the workshop, participants can take their own work home. The workshop is open to people of all ages (15 and up).

The workshop is part of a series at the Museum of Islamic Art. One session will be held monthly.

The workshop continues on May 10th with stucco carving and glass, and on June 14th with wood carving.
