On Saturday, 3 May, the BERLIN ASIA ARTS CLUB at C-Space Berlin (Weissensee, Langhansstrasse 86) opens its doors at 4pm.
Many Berlin artists of Asian descent are not only active in one art, but often multidisciplinary. At the suggestion of our Vietnamese friends, we have therefore been presenting them throughout Berlin with our Berlin Asia Arts Club since 2021. In 2025, regular club events with many Asian artists from Berlin will now be held at C*Space Weißensee.
A varied afternoon programme awaits you in a relaxed atmosphere with two interactive art events.
Daniel Parasaudi (Indonesia/Berlin), also known as Emeteur, invites you to create a large-format mural together in the courtyard of C-Space. As part of an open workshop, a live mural will be created that will artistically transform the space and encourage participation. The event will conclude with an exciting artist talk with the artist at 6 pm - in English and German.
Tao Haiyue (China/Berlin) & Amy and her quiet experiments (Japan/Berlin) present their joint performance ‘Yang Sheng: A Dialogue with the Body’ on the upper floor. The exhibition shows a diverse collection of wellness tools from different cultures in East Asia - inspired by Yangsheng, a centuries-old practice of Daoism and traditional Chinese medicine that aims to promote health and longevity. Visitors are invited not only to look at the objects, but to actively experience them. An accompanying live music performance creates a meditative interplay of body, mind and sound. This will be followed by an artist talk with both artists at 5 pm - also in English and German.
VATERS LAND & MOTHERLAND - Reading and concert with Hieu Hoang (literature) and Another Ngyuen (music)
Hieu Hoang was born in Hanoi and studied literature, theatre and philosophy in Hildesheim, Berlin and Paris. He writes literary texts and works as a freelance actor and theatre-maker in Berlin. His play HIEU:LOVE YOUR PARENTS (Ballhaus Ost Berlin 2013) was invited to the 2015 FAST FORWARD European Festival for Young Directors in Braunschweig. He is a member of the cobratheater.cobra network, with which he has been a resident at the Favoriten Festival 2014 and DRECK:Ein Apparat 2015 at Uferstudios, among other places. For the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons, he was at the Theater an der Parkaue with cobradoppelpass.cobra, where he helped to build the House of Digital Youth. He is currently working on his debut novel about Berlin's German-Vietnamese, which he will be presenting to us this evening.
Another Nguyen – Berlin singer-songwriter Ngoc Anh Nguyen makes contemplative pop inspired by electronic music. Influences from Julia Michaels or Adele meet ARY, Tsar B and Emilie Nicolas – and merge intimately with the question of what belonging actually means. Born in 1992, Ngoc Anh Nguyen grew up in Boxberg near Weißwasser in Saxony. For a long time, they were the only Vietnamese family in the town, which at the time had a population of 1,000. After reunification, her parents earned their money with a snack stand at the weekly market or by selling food at village festivals. Their multiple affiliations and the associated multi-perspective experiences are reflected in their art at both the textual and musical level. ANOTHER NGUYEN is atmospheric and contemplative, telling of disappointments and pain, but also of interpersonal relationships. This evening she presents her haunting songs in a unique solo set.
