The Maxim-Gorki-Theater makes its home in the oldest theatre building in Berlin, between Festungsgraben and Unter den Linden. Three stages ensure a varied programme at Deutsches Theater on Schumannstraße. The largest space can hold up to 600 in its audience. In venues such as the Kleines Theater in Friedenau and Zimmertheater Steglitz, big theatre is being created for just a couple dozen audience members at a time. An insider's tip is the Theater im Nikolaiviertel, which addresses the city's life and culture in an artistic way. The enchanting Schlosspark-Theater in the south of Berlin offers high-end entertainment is offered in a refined setting. The open-air productions of the Shakespeare Company are also worth seeing.
