Summer is here and the temperatures are rising. Water playgrounds are a great way to cool off. It's best to pack buckets and water pistols so that your children can play, paddle and splash around. Bathing shoes are often a good idea to reduce the risk of slipping.
Water features and fountains not only look beautiful and are fun, they also cool the surrounding air. In this way, they contribute to making the city climate more pleasant in summer.
Tipp 1: Fun splashing in the Plänterwald forest
The Plänterwald paddling pool was renovated in 2022 and equipped with new water features. On the round surface of the paddling pool, which was designed in bright shades of blue and green, children can enjoy frolicking between various water jets, water umbrellas, hoses and play opportunities. When the outside temperature exceeds 21° C, the facility switches on automatically. A cute detail are three seal statues in the centre of the "swirl". The newly renovated sanitary facilities right next to the splash pool are practical, too.
Tipp 2: Cooling down in Volkspark Friedrichshain
In Volkspark Friedrichshain there are several ways to cool off on hot days. Numerous fountains, an artificial watercourse and a playground with a paddling zone ensure a pleasant climate here. Children love to run underneath the water fountains that two elephant statues at the Friedenstraße playground create with their trunks. There is also a water pump where you can fill your water pistols and buckets.
Tipp 3: Experimenting at the Britzer Garten water playground
Adventurous explorers will find a whole rocky landscape to explore in the Britzer Garten. Particularly interesting for older children: there are several artificial streams whose course can be playfully changed with sluice gates. The streams flow into a small pool in which children can stand about calf-deep. Of course, there are various water fountains that will envelop you in a refreshing mist of water when the temperature is hot.
Since spring 2024, there has also opened a new water labyrinth in the Britzer Garten, which includes a barrier-free play element. The labyrinth's water jets embedded in the ground can be controlled using push buttons.

Tipp 4: Fantasy splashing in the gardens of the world
The water playground in the Gardens of the World in Marzahn enchants children and adults with a large wooden whale figure and an imaginative design on the theme of the South Seas, based on Erich Kästner's children's novel "May 35". There are various water spouts, sprinklers and fountains around the whale. All the more reason to plan a visit to the 40-hectare site of the Gardens of the World. Pack a dry change of clothes so that you can continue exploring the complex with its cable car and 11 themed gardens afterwards.
Tipp 5: Bathing and playing at the Weißen See lake in Weißensee
Just a few metres from the Weißer See (White Lake), four walrus statues and several water jets will spray you. Right next to it is a large playground with a climbing frame. The close proximity to the White Lake makes this a perfect place to relax with the whole family in the summer. Younger and older children will find activities here. Put your feet in the lake, have a picnic and watch the little and big kids playing under the water fountains.
Tipp 6: See animals and cool down in the Tierpark
Under the motto "A day at the seaside", the water playground in Berlin's Tierpark takes you to a waterscape on a bright blue background. Here, children romp around the water fountains while adults sit relaxed in the beach chair next to them. The cool-down is a nice addition to a day at the zoo, where you can see over 650 different species of animals. A huge bouncy cushion and the Fable Forest with climbing opportunities and puzzles add to the fun.
Tipp 7: Relaxing in the Volkspark am Weinberg
The splash pad in the Volkspark am Weinberg is based on a simple design. Various geometric shapes spout and spray water here. It is the peaceful ambience around it that makes this place worth a visit. Here it is good to linger over a picnic on the sunbathing lawn while the little ones cool off. Not far from the paddling pool is the "Blue Playground", which also has a water pump.
Tipp 8: Natural splashing at Park am Gleisdreieck
At the entrance to Kurfürstenstraße in Gleisdreieckpark, you will find a wooden play table with a mini canal system. You can pipe water into the system from several pumps. There is a sandpit all around so that children can enjoy splashing around. Right next to it is a large climbing frame. In addition to various sports facilities, the Park am Gleisdreieck offers a nature experience area that was planned with the participation of citizens. It features a modelled clay landscape that is regularly flooded with water.
Bonus tip: The Park am Gleisdreieck celebrates its tenth anniversary on 30 June 2023.
Tipp 9: Water fun with colourful fish at Nordbahnhof
The splash pad at Nordbahnhof is equipped with various jets, showers and water spouts. On the round surface of the water playground, you will also find colourful, water-spouting fish figures that children love to climb on. The mechanisms in this water playground work mainly through motion sensors. The water is collected in underground tanks and used to irrigate the sunbathing lawns.

Tipp 10: Relax at the splash pad in Schillerpark
At Schillerpark in Wedding, you'll find a paddling pool in its most traditional form. The small pool allows you to cool off in hot temperatures. Its gently angled entrance makes it ideal for small children who want to sit in the shallow water. Here you can splash around in the middle of the historic Schillerpark housing estate, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The estate was built in the 1920s with the aim of creating housing with a better quality of life for workers. The paddling pool is also part of this concept and from the beginning was part of the first "people's park" in Berlin that could be actively used for local recreation.

Tipp 11: Refreshment at the Charlottenburg play fountain
Right next to the Stuttgarter Platz playground, children can enjoy a refreshing shower at the play fountain. Water jets arranged in a circle cool you down with fine sprays of water. The water pressure here is not too high, so the play fountain is also suitable for small children. Around the fountain, half-circular steps ensure that you can sit close to the little ones. Older children will also enjoy the fountain and the colourful climbing frame.
