Running late? December has once again flown by and there wasn't enough time to visit a Christmas market - no problem. These Christmas markets in Berlin are open between Christmas and New Year, and some are even open in January. Plus: a few bonus tips for Christmas locations and events to extend the festive spirit.
Tip 1: Berliner Weihnachtszeit at Rotes Rathaus
In the heart of the city, you can enjoy the Christmas season until January. At the foot of the TV tower is one of Berlin's classic Christmas markets, complete with treats, small rides and arts and crafts. The large Ferris wheel serves as a marvellous backdrop and the ice rink around the Neptune Fountain creates a particularly wintery atmosphere.

Tip 2: Christmas Garden at the Botanical Garden
An hour-and-a-half tour through a glowing winter wonderland awaits you here. The plants and trees of the botanical garden become part of the illuminated spectacle. Along the route through the various light installations, there will also be stalls where you can enjoy refreshments.

Tip 3: Christmas market at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church
The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church will also surrounded by Christmas spirit until January. Not far from KaDeWe, Bikini Berlin and the famous Kurfürstendamm promenade, colourful stalls with delicious food and arts and crafts beckon. Shopping and a visit to the Christmas market can be perfectly combined here.

Tip 4: Winter Market at Schlossplatz
You can enjoy your mulled wine directly at the Humboldt Forum against the backdrop of Museum Island and the partially reconstructed City Palace. While glowing stars dance across the walls in the courtyard of the Humboldt Forum, there are selected arts and crafts stalls to marvel at.
The market also has plenty of culinary delights to offer. For example, a Jamie Oliver stand that will whet the appetite for the British celebrity chef's new restaurant, which will open in Berlin in 2024.

Tip 5: Family Wonderland in Spandau
Between the years, Family Wonderland is the perfect place for a fun day out with children of all ages. The family-friendly Christmas market offers a colourful winter funfair with all kinds of rides, stalls and games that are guaranteed to keep everyone entertained. Afterwards, we recommend a stroll through the historic centre of Spandau.

Tip 6: Tierpark Berlin
An illuminated route with magical light installations and cuddly, glowing animal figures also attracts visitors to Berlin Tierpark. The two-kilometre circular route is separated from the animal park and ends at Friedrichsfelde Palace, where mulled wine and food stalls await. There is also a large ice rink to enjoy.

Tip 7: Christmas market at Charlottenburg Palace
In front of the baroque Charlottenburg Palace, there is a particularly festive atmosphere between Christmas and New Year's Eve. It is quiet and contemplative here, there are no colourful rides. Instead, there are stalls with unusual delicacies and arts and crafts as well as a little foretaste of next year's Festival of Lights, thanks to the daily light show after dark.

Tip 8: Winter Film Fest at Nikolai Quarter
A special experience for all film fans: the German Christmas comedy "Die Feuerzangenbowle" is shown in the Nikolai Quarter on weekdays at 5 pm and 7.30 pm. At the weekend additionally at 2.30 p.m. It is accompanied - of course - by a hot mug of Feuerzangenbowle. Cosy armchairs and sofas are available for this special cinema experience. Afterwards, you can take a relaxing stroll around the nostalgic winter market on Nikolai Square.

Tip 9: The Christmas House
If you're already at Nikolaikirchplatz for tip 7, don't miss the Christmas House. The museum in the Knoblauchhaus, one of the oldest preserved town houses in Berlin, displays everyday objects and furniture from the Biedermeier period (1815 to 1848). At Christmas time, the entire exhibition is decorated in a festive Biedermeier style.

Tip 10: Roncalli Christmas Circus
At the Tempodrom, the Roncalli Christmas Circus will whisk you away to Christmassy France until the fourth of January. The imaginative show full of acrobatics, lovable clowns and fascinating stage sets is absolutely worth a visit even after Christmas. Here you can experience contemporary circus at a high artistic level.

Tip 11: Winter Lights at Dark Matter
Dark Matter's impressive Christmas light installation is also still open after Christmas. Immerse yourself in a surreal world of seemingly floating Christmas trees. You can also take a look at the other light installations inside the halls.

Additional tip: Christmas all year round
What would Christmas be without the surroundings? Without the lovely decorations that we take out of their boxes and cartons in the run-up to Christmas and festively display? You can find pretty Christmas decorations all year round in the large Käthe Wohlfahrt store directly on Kurfürstendamm.
