Join the 2.5-hour walking tour and learn more about Karl-Heinz Richter's moving story.
After the Berlin Wall was built, many GDR citizens tried to flee to the West Berlin. Karl-Heinz Richter was one of them.
In January 1964, the East Berliner and seven other classmates planned to escape to the western part of the city. They tried to jump onto a night train from East to West Berlin at Friedrichstrasse station. But the escape attempt failed. Karl-Heinz Richter was arrested and, at the age of 17, had to spend several months under inhumane conditions in a Stasi prison.
Together with Karl-Heinz Richter, you will return to the places of his past and hear exciting stories about everyday life in the GDR as well as about his escape attempt. You will also learn more about the conditions of detention in the Berlin Stasi prison and the notorious Stasi interrogation methods.
