The museum reopened its doors to the public in 2009 and combines geographically and thematically related exhibits pooled together from three separate collections at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. No printout needed - valid as smartphone voucher.
Legendary archaeological treasures, such as the bust of Nefertiti, combine with world-famous exhibits from the Museum of Prehistory and Early History to create a unique panorama of early human history. Highlights include the skull of the Neanderthals of Le Moustier, Heinrich Schliemann's collection of Trojan antiquities, or the mysterious bronze-age "Berlin Gold Hat".
The Nile Island Elephantine can be experienced with the special exhibition on the Museum Island, presented in the James-Simon-Galerie and the Neues Museum. In this first comprehensive exhibition worldwide, outstanding Berlin artefacts will be shown together with selected top international pieces. The entire exhibition is presented in Arabic, German and English.
In the exhibition, the materiality of the text carriers can be experienced haptically through touch stations. At the spice market, your senses are stimulated and contemporary artists interpret the themes of the texts in their own way. A European odour artist and Egyptian DJs make Elephantine a unique experience through their compositions.
An interactive experience awaits you: A complete exhibition extends to the Neues Museum & James-Simon-Galerie, so the exhibition part "Time" is presented on Elephantine in the James-Simon-Galerie and the "Space" Elephantine in the Neues Museum.
The permanent exhibition shows the objects once submerged in the floods of the Rhine, most of which come from private Roman houses. The collection includes simple kitchen and cooking utensils, but also valuable tableware for serving food and drink, bringing you close to the everyday life of the people who worked with it.
In this exhibition, you will discover more than 2,500 exhibits on 3 floors covering an area of 3,600 square metres on a scale never seen before. The Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection in the north wing of the Neues Museum is presented on a scale never seen before. One of the highlights of this collection is the bust of Nefertiti.
The extensive collection takes you on 3 floors along the preserved wall paintings of Nordic mythology, to the collection of Trojan antiquities, on to "Rome's Provinces" in the "Pantheon" with two colossal statues of gods from the 2nd century AD from the Egyptian Lyconpolis. Other collections present topics such as "Rome's Neighbours in the North" and the "Migration and Middle Ages".
