A few kilometers from the city center, the Spree becomes much wider, with bays and small islands. Ideal for a discovery tour by canoe. From the water you can easily see the traces of the GDR. At the same time, the change becomes visible here as well.
Passing the remains of the former Spreepark Plänterwald with its famous, idle Ferris wheel and the almost 100-year-old Klingenberg power plant, the tour continues to the Stralau peninsula and its tranquil village church.
Here, you learn the exciting story about a half-sunken tunnel under water and why in the GDR no place to stay. Today, the peninsula is an expensive residential area where even celebrities like Till Schweiger often pass by.
The tour continues along the Rummelsburg Bay with its former notorious prison of the State Security and back to the Funkhaus Berlin. For those interested, there is the possibility to take part in a guided tour on the former GDR broadcasting site or to eat or drink a snack in the Milchbar.
