UNESCO World Natural Heritage Beech Forest Grumsin
Forest, water and bogs
In the immediate vicinity of the Berlin-Usedom bike route and about 68 kilometers northeast of Berlin lies the unique UNESCO World Natural Heritage Beech Forest Grumsin. From Berlin main station (Berlin Hauptbahnhof) you can take the regional train RE3 to Angermünde, departing every hour. There from May to October you can catch the WelterbeBus to Altklünkendorf and at the information point start your walking tour right away. Four well-signposted forest hiking routes start from here. Venerable copper beeches line the path. The numerous water-filled depressions you pass by date back to the Ice Age. And small swamps and bogs are home to a remarkable variety of species. By the way, along the Grumsiner Genusswanderweg, which is marked with a "G", lovingly run cafés and farm stores invite you to take culinary breaks.
