Treptow-Köpenick by bike

Cycle from Treptower Park to Köpenick old town: sporty or relaxed, past leisure facilities and castles and into Berlin's green south-east. And for those who like it more athletic, cycle a little further and round the Müggelsee - a particularly beautiful spot in Berlin.

The route starts at the Treptower Park Ringbahn station and ends in Erkner, where you can easily take the S-Bahn back to Berlin. Numerous regional trains also stop there. If you follow the tour to Erkner, the journey takes two hours and 44 minutes. Remember to allow time for stops. For example, to cool off in the Müggelsee.

Tour Highlights

The cycle tour starts at Treptower Park, Berlin's largest picnic area by the water. After a few hundred metres, you will pass the rose garden. It's worth getting off your bike, as over 100 types of roses bloom here. In Treptower Park, you can also make a stop at the Soviet Memorial, which commemorates the Red Army soldiers who died during the conquest of Berlin in the Second World War. Shortly afterwards, you will come to the Archenhold Observatory. This is the oldest and largest public observatory in Germany and has the longest movable telescope in the world with a focal length of 21 metres.

The route continues through the greenery into the Plänterwald forest. Take a closer look and discover the scaffolding and sculptures of the former Spreepark amusement park. A reopening with a restored Ferris wheel is planned for 2024. In Öberschöneweide, you can take a detour to the Schöneweide industrial centre or cycle straight through to the Wuhlheide. The Karlshorst harness racing track is an interesting place to explore. Exciting races take place here all year round. The main racing days are Friday and Sunday.

Now it's not far to Köpenick town hall and the moated castle in Köpenick's old town centre. If you would like to end the tour at this point, it is best to cycle a little further, through the Spree tunnel and past the Friedrichshagen lido. From Friedrichshagen S-Bahn station, you can return to Berlin city centre. For everyone else, the route continues around the Müggelsee lake. You can follow the signposted R1 cycle path, which leads to Erkner.
