TIPI AM KANZLERAMT
Cabaret in Berlin’s government quarter
Close to the Chancellery, the Tipi marquee in the heart of Berlin presents music, cabaret and chansons – where the Roaring Twenties come alive!
The TIPI AM KANZLERAMT (Tipi at the Chancellery) is a very special kind of circus tent. Not only is it set right in the heart of the Tiergarten district, but also at the centre of Berlin’s government quarter – and, as its name says, just a stone’s throw from the Chancellery. Yet despite the political circus around it, Tipi enjoys an enviably quiet city centre location. In the winter moonlight under a layer of snow, it can look quite enchanted, while the summer beer garden and night-time illuminations give it an almost romantic air.
Intelligent entertainment
The TIPI AM KANZLERAMT marquee with its impressive four supporting masts is home to the best in cabaret and smaller venue acts. Opened in 2002 as the sister tent to BAR JEDER VERNUNFT, it has space for over twice as many guests. All year round, the Tipi programme boasts a sparkling array of intelligent entertainment, from evenings of chansons to cabaret and variety acts, breathtaking acrobats and musical comedy.
Every evening, local heroes or international performers present their latest shows, revitalising that great tradition of intelligent variety shows from the Roaring Twenties – and bringing it very much into the twenty-first century! The acts include:
- Max Raabe
- Rainald Grebe
- Ennio - The Living Paper Cartoon
- Dominique Horwitz
- Actor and singer Gustav Peter Wöhler
- The 12 Tenors and more
Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome – Cabaret comes home!
This highly acclaimed production of Cabaret was originally shown in the Bar jeder Vernunft, but has become a fixture in the Tipi programme. The impressive production is by Vincent Paterson, who has also developed choreographies for Madonna. Every summer, the Tipi marquee is transformed into the Kit Kat Club, providing the perfect 1920s setting for reviving the night life of the Golden Twenties. The bar and lobby of the spreading marquee theatre are also given a make-over in the same style – and the audience often dresses in the fashions to match! When the guests sit gently fanning themselves on particularly warm summer evenings, then the illusion is perfect...
