Tour Highlights
At the beginning of the tour, you will drive a short distance along Schloßstraße. Berlin's second largest shopping street offers numerous department stores, shopping centres, shops, cafés and restaurants. Then it's off to Steglitz City Park. The approximately 17-hectare public green and recreational area is a listed building.
There is plenty to discover along the Teltow Canal. For example, the Benjamin Franklin University Hospital and the decommissioned Lichterfelde combined heat and power plant. The Lichterfelde West villa colony, also known as Carstenn'sche Villenkolonie, is one of the oldest villa neighbourhoods in Berlin. Here you can marvel at Lichterfelde West, founded in 1860, with its Tuscan villas, romantic medieval castles, English country houses and lovingly landscaped gardens.
The route then takes you across the campus of the Free University of Berlin in Dahlem. The Museum of European Cultures located there presents everyday culture and living environments in Europe from the 18th century to the present day. If you are not in the mood for an indoor museum visit, stop off shortly afterwards at the historic Domäne Dahlem manor. It is now an open-air museum for agricultural and food culture.
The route then takes you directly to the Berlin Botanical Garden. This is one of the largest and most species-rich botanical gardens in the world. Back at Steglitz Town Hall, a visit to the Schwartzsche Villa is well worthwhile at the end of the tour.
