ORWOhaus Festival XVIII

And yet one thing remains: Something we've been meaning to do again and again since the very first festival and, amazingly even for us, have never done.

It's time to remove this flaw.

For the first time in our festival history, 86.67% of the entire line-up will come from ORWOhaus.

This means that, according to the ‘Genussschutzverordnung’, we are entitled to award the label ‘from our own cultivation’ and fulfil our long-awaited wish to experience what we have to offer.

The ORWOhaus - occupied - bought - made cosy.

IN SHORT: everything a musician's heart desires

If there were musicians in the 90s who had no problem finding venues where they could make their music, then this was an exception. Normally, you had to travel all over Berlin to find suitable places and contacts to finally find something that was often damp and mouldy.

This is how the ORWOhaus, which at the time, after reunification, was owned by TLG and managed by GSE, was discovered by some musicians after a long period of vacancy. Thanks to its location in the industrial estate, the first bands played 24 hours a day in the building from around 1998. A number of companies also found storage space on the ground floor.

The musicians were therefore unwilling to accept the immediate cancellation of their beloved rehearsal rooms in 2004 due to fire safety deficiencies. Loud protests against the process and the will to create a free space to develop their own creativity led to the founding of the association (ORWOhaus e.V.) in 2005.
