In 2024, Deutsche Gesellschaft e. V. and the Federal Foundation for Coming to terms with the SED Dictatorship under the title “Back to the Future! Visions, Hopes and Awakenings 1949-1989-2024” is a four-part discussion series.
What political and social ideas were associated with the moments of awakening in 1949 and 1989? What longings did they awaken among people in East and West?
Which predictions have been fulfilled and which have long been outdated?
And to what extent do unfulfilled expectations and disappointed hopes shape the present?
In discussion rounds, readings and film evenings, future-oriented answers to today's questions are found with futurologists, contemporary witnesses and experts from society, politics and culture.
