Meister Eckhart and Marguerite Porète

On 17 July, the renowned theologian and mysticism expert Dietmar Mieth will give a lecture entitled "Meister Eckhart and Maguerite Porète: Mysticism as self-retraction".

The mystic Meister Eckhart (ca. 1260 - 1328) and the beguine Marguerite Porète (1250/60 - 1310) were not only immediate contemporaries, but also relatives in spirit.

The famous magister at the University of Paris and the hitherto almost forgotten woman both understood the challenge of the inner transformation process as a life lesson. Both were convinced that man encounters God's power in the depths of his own self. In uniting with this power, God is born in everything that man thinks and creates.

This public lecture is organised by the "Campus for Theology and Spirituality Berlin" together with the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
