Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection celebrates the 100th anniversary of surrealism with the “surreal24” film festival

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first Surrealist Manifesto from 1924, the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection is presenting a special homage to Surrealist film.

Under the title "surreal24", 24 films will be presented on a total of 14 evenings from March 13th to November 6th, 2024, which capture the essence of surrealism and are among the most important works of the last 100 years.

"surreal24" presents a selection of surrealist classics, experimental and documentary films as well as well-known feature films and lesser-known insider tips in the museum cinema of the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection.

The 24 films are shown every second Wednesday at 6 p.m. with free admission.

The festival starts on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, with rarities that have not been seen on the screen for decades: “La coquille et le clergyman” (The Shell and the Cleric, 1928, OmU) by Germaine Dulac and “ “Les Mystères du Château du Dé” (The Secrets of the Château of the Gods, 1929, OmU) by Man Ray.
