Group exhibition
In the spring, the MINSK Kunsthaus in Potsdam presents the group exhibition "Soft Power", which presents textile design as a means of artistic expression and emphasizes the possibility of questioning power relations. The exhibition highlights different aspects of textile art in three chapters.

In the first chapter, “Invisible Hands,” the exhibition focuses on the production conditions of textiles and their raw materials. This is done, among other things, based on the history of the Leipzig cotton spinning mill. The exhibition illustrates the connections between historical and contemporary production conditions and trade relationships and shows the ecological effects that continue to this day.
The second chapter is titled “Breaking Patterns.” Textile patterns are discussed here, which are often based on the repetition of graphic structures, which in turn go back to long traditions and can convey information about power hierarchies or status. The works presented in this chapter critically examine existing patterns and arrangements.
In the third chapter, “Threads of Ancestors,” connecting lines to the past are shown. The historical and contemporary works in this chapter draw on past traditions that continue to resonate today, illustrating how individual threads can connect into fabrics and larger networks.
The exhibition "Soft Power" features works by artists such as Magdalena Abakanowicz, Caroline Achaintre, Wilder Alison, Leonor Antunes, Ouassila Arras, Kevin Beasley, Mariana Chkonia, Edith Dekyndt, Gee's Bend Quiltmakers (Ella Mae Irby, Candis Mosely Pettway, Quinnie Pettway) , Philipp Gufler, William Kentridge, Maria Lai, Joanna Louca, Sandra Mujinga, Gulnur Mukazhanova, Ramona Schacht, Gabriele Stötzer, Johanna Unzueta, Hamid Zénati and others.
The exhibition is curated by Daniel Milnes, who has been working as a curator at MINSK since June 2023. With a background in Modern Languages (German and Russian) in Oxford and art history in Freiburg and Saint Petersburg, Milnes has already gained experience as a curator at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart as well as at the Haus der Kunst in Munich and at the Hamburger Bahnhof - Nationalgalerie der Kulturen in Berlin.
