The Museum of Brandenburg-Prussian History in Potsdam's historical centre is dedicated to 900 years of state history. In the exhibition "Land and People", take a ramble through the everyday lives and social history of people between Kleve and Königsberg. Discover the colourful past of the inhabitants of Brandenburg and Prussia. About 400 exhibits and films, photos and multimedia stations bring you close to the historic and cultural roots of these two inextricably linked states.

Young collection within old walls: Potsdam's history from the Middle Ages to modernity

Court architect Andreas Ludwig Krüger constructs a horse carriage stall at the Neuer Markt, close to the Stadtschloss (city palace) in 1787-1790. Until 1918, it offers boxes for 100 horses as well as living quarters for their keepers. With the abolition of the monarchy, the premises are used for other purposes - for example as a wholesale operation for fruit, vegetables and potatoes. In 1997, the State of Brandenburg takes over the building with the intention of establishing a regional museum here. In 2003, the Haus der Brandenburgisch-Preußischen Geschichte opens after renovation.

Behold the magnificent early-Classicist facade from the Neuer Markt. Tuscan-style pilasters divide the facade of the royal carriage stalls. The majestic portal is crowned by a Quadriga sculpture in strong contrast to the glass foyer in the courtyard. From here, start your journey of discovery in nine chapters. Walk through the historic vaulted stall building with its high curved ceilings and red sandstone pillars. Our tips for your visit to the House of Brandenburg-Prussian History

From Berlin, the regional trains RE1 or RE7 go directly to the Potsdam Hauptbahnhof. Alternatively, take the S-Bahn line S7 to the state capital. From here, walk for five minutes or take tram or bus lines to the Alter Markt stop. For car parking near the HBGP, see the Werner-Seelenbinder-Straße.
