Winter is at its best and Berlin is full of exciting opportunities to fill the cold days with special experiences. Whether you want to immerse yourself in the mysterious world of Ancient Egypt, be inspired by the dazzling creations of Berlin Fashion Week or be thrilled by the exciting six-day race - there are countless ways to escape the grey everyday life in the capital. Pack your curiosity and discover the city in all its facets!

Tip 1: Travel back in time to ancient Egypt

More than 2500 exhibits await you on three levels of the Neues Museum - from imposing statues and ornate reliefs to valuable papyri. The exhibition takes you into the secrets of the cult of the dead, kingship and everyday life of the ancient Egyptians.

A particular highlight is the famous bust of Nefertiti, which you can admire in the magnificent North Dome Hall. The ticket for the Neues Museum not only gives you access to this fantastic special exhibition, but also to the interesting permanent exhibitions.

Tip 2: Get a fashionable start at Fashion Week

As soon as the New Year's Eve sparks have burnt out, Berlin comes up with an absolute fashion highlight: the Berlin Fashion Week Winter. But Berlin wouldn't be Berlin if it didn't go its own way in fashion - Fashion Week combines avant-garde with sustainability and promotes up-and-coming designers:Inside with progressive, inclusive ideas. On the catwalks and at the numerous side events, you can expect not only spectacular fashion creations, but also talks and presentations that will shed light on fashion from new perspectives.

Tip 3: Experience adrenaline on two wheels at SIX DAY BERLIN

Racy, exciting, electrifying - the Six Day Berlin is a must for all sports enthusiasts! When the best track cyclists in the world compete in a thrilling race in the Velodrom, the air pulsates with excitement. For over 100 years, the Berlin Six-Day Race has been thrilling audiences with sprints, standing races and the Madison race, in which teams of two take turns using the spectacular hand-slinging technique.

Tip 4: Dive even deeper into ancient Egypt

The immersive exhibition TUTANCHAMUN - THE IMMERSIVE EXHIBITION EXPERIENCE lets you immerse yourself in a world full of myths, gold treasures and gods. In several experience rooms, you can experience the fascination of the famous child king up close - from detailed replicas of the magnificent sarcophagus to interactive virtual reality adventures in which you follow the winding paths of the Book of the Dead. An informative and special experience for the whole family that brings you closer to the mystery of one of the most impressive cultures in human history.

Tip 5: Follow the traces of Anne Frank

The red-checkered diary of Anne Frank is one of the most impressive testimonies of the Nazi era - and one of the most famous memorabilia in the world. In this documentary theatre piece with puppets and objects, Anne Frank's words come to life on stage and take you on an emotional journey into the mind of a young girl who, despite fear and isolation, never gave up on her dreams and hopes. 

When: Friday at 11am, Saturday at 8pm

Tip 6: Go to a magical read-aloud session for the whole family

Every weekend, Hall 3 of the Humboldt Forum is transformed into a cosy reading space where professional actors bring exciting stories to life for children and their families. While the captivating stories are read aloud, the colourful illustrations appear on the screen and whisk young and old away on fascinating adventures. The selection of books is diverse: from loving tales about family and friendship to inspiring stories about little and big heroes.

This weekend, you can look forward to "The Colour of Lemons", "When Grandma Got Smaller and Smaller" and "The Little Hummingbird", among others.

Tip 7: Understand the power of images at the Berlin Story Bunker

Over an area of 3,000 square metres, the exhibition in the former air raid shelter offers an in-depth exploration of the horrors of the Nazi era. 38 themed areas guide you through the rise of Hitler, the mechanisms of terror and the downfall of the Third Reich. Numerous original documents, contemporary testimonies, photos and films are used to get to the bottom of pressing questions: How could it happen that so many people voted for Hitler? Why did the generals go along with it until the last hour? The current special exhibition on memes as a modern form of propaganda perfectly complements the topic and shows how images can have a political impact.

Tip 8: Get carried away by a burlesque show

The Roadrunner's Paradise Club is transformed into a pulsating circus world that breathes magic and mysticism at "Madness Mansion". An evening that will amaze you with wild burlesque performances, breathtaking acrobatics and bizarre walking acts. The boundaries between reality and fantasy are blurred here - accompanied by a crazy live band that provides the perfect soundtrack to this spectacle. If you want to tempt fate, you can take a peek into the future in the mysterious Tarot Reading Tent by Skai Addams. And when the show is over, DJ The Shredder will provide the perfect ending to this extraordinary night at the after-show party.

Tip 9: Visit an exhibition on contemporary African photography

This exhibition invites you to discover Africa from a new, unfamiliar perspective. More than 20 international artists present their works and challenge stereotypical perceptions of the continent. "A World in Common . African Contemporary Photography" is divided into three thematic areas: Identity and Tradition, Counter-Histories and Imaginary Visions of the Future. A special highlight: the exhibition has been organised in cooperation with the renowned Tate Modern London and promises an artistic journey that will inspire and challenge you.

Tip 10: Treat your soul to the fascination of beautiful northern lights

Be enchanted by one of the most fascinating natural phenomena in the world! In the Zeiss-Großplanetarium you can experience the aurora borealis in all its breathtaking facets - in a spectacular 360° format - thanks to the unique images taken by Korean astrophotographer Kwon O Chul. The show not only shows you impressive images from Earth, but also spectacular original shots from on board the International Space Station ISS. The experience is complemented by true-to-life visualisations that not only show you the beauty, but also the scientific background and legends surrounding the northern and southern lights.

Tip 11: Spend a creative Kollwitz Sunday

Be inspired by one of the greatest masters of printmaking and discover your creative streak at Kollwitz Sunday! From 2 February 2025, the Käthe Kollwitz Museum will open its doors on the first Sunday of every month to anyone with a passion for artistic creation. In the print workshop, you can try your hand at various printing techniques and immerse yourself in the world of graphic art. Adults are also welcome to express their creativity and experiment with colours, shapes and ideas. On Kollwitz Sunday, you can enjoy the reduced admission price of 4 euros, which already includes participation in the print workshop. Children and young people under the age of 18 even benefit from free admission.
