Marija Jaensch
Creative upcycling and loving craftsmanship
Marija Jaensch's unit in the centre of Lichtenberg's Kaskelkiez neighbourhood creatively turns old things into new. Since opening its studio in 2015, the small quilt and textile art workshop has focussed entirely on recycling and upcycling.
Marija Jaensch gets many of the fabrics and old clothes for her work directly from the neighbourhood, and she also collects old textiles from the streets of Berlin. She uses these old materials to make beautiful quilts as well as cushion covers, soft toys and more.
She has also been producing her own vegetable dyes for colouring the fabrics for some years now. The unit also offers sewing courses. As part of her mobile paper-making workshop, Marija Jaensch also organises paper-related workshops, for example on making envelopes from waste paper.
