A musical journey of discovery into the unknown and unheard

A musical journey of discovery into the unknown and unheard of. Hardly any area of society and art is as attached to the traditional as the world of classical music. Beethoven and Brahms, Mozart, Verdi and Wagner dominate the stages of concert and opera houses.

But why do female composers hardly appear on the repertoires to this day?

Arno Lücker has been studying the lives and music of female composers for many years. Most of them had to fight for the space to develop their creativity against numerous obstacles. He has brought together 250 female composers from all over the world and many centuries in this book. In sparkling short portraits he lets us immerse ourselves in the lives of the musicians.

The question is always: What does this music that we don't yet know sound like?

The author will also perform selected compositions that he talks about live on the piano.

Arno Lücker, born in Braunschweig in 1979, studied musicology and philosophy and works as a musicologist, music critic, pianist and composer. From 2008 to 2010 he worked in front of and behind the microphone at Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg and from 2010 to 2013 as a dramaturge at the Konzerthaus Berlin (since then freelance).

He also teaches musicology at the Philipps University of Marburg. From 2019 to 2023 he wrote the highly acclaimed series of articles "250 Female Composers" for VAN Magazine, in which he portrays women who create music from all over the world and from all centuries - up to the present day.
