The project focuses on the reclaiming of nature after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Despite the radiation, an independent ecosystem has developed in the exclusion zone. Scientists are controversially debating the causes.

Volker Kreidler's photographic work explores transformation processes and the topography of Eastern and Central Europe. His focus is on social spaces, border regions, and transshipment points. In doing so, he examines the interplay between culture and nature.

Over time, his interest shifted from landscapes to people and their living conditions. His large-format works require precise camera techniques and intensive research.
