In her paintings, Claudia Sawallisch addresses human self-efficacy and follows a figurative approach, inspired by Itten's and Klee's theory of contrast. By applying paint quickly, she interweaves inner experiences with external reality. Her figures are integrated into the pictures and reflect the painting process.
Sawallisch's papier-mâché sculptures act as ambassadors who inspire us to "[...] grow and have an impact in the world" (Jeannette Hagen). She invites us to understand the world as a dynamic process, characterized by failure and development. A central theme is the Icarus theme, which stands for risk and the relationship between children and parents.
Her works invite viewers to actively participate in the dialogue. Icarus symbolizes courage and the pursuit of one's own limits and to grow for oneself. The artist encourages people to learn from setbacks and find the strength to follow their own dreams.
