UNSER DEUTSCHLANDMÄRCHEN

FatmaDelivered at times as a prayer, lullaby or dream, sometimes as an angry reckoning, insistent accusation or a tender declaration of love, Dinçer Güçyeter, born in Nettetal in 1979, weaves his own history together with that of his mother, who came to Germany from Turkey in the 60s as a guest worker. A polyphonic family history spanning one hundred years, about growing up between two unattainable homelands and opposing regulatory systems. About unforgiving German conditions and searching for and finding one’s own language – and with it, one’s place in the world. An extraordinary and unusual conversation between two incredibly strong people!

Dinçer Güçyeter was honoured with the 2023 Leipzig Book Fair Prize for Unser Deutschlandmärchen (Fairtayles of Our Germany). In 2022 he received the Peter Huchel Prize for his volume of poetry Mein Prinz, ich bin das Ghetto (My Prince, I am the Ghetto). Furthermore, he’s the founder of the small publisher ELIF, which focuses on poetry in particular and which Güçyeter also finances through his part-time work as a forklift operator.
