Do you know water creatures? Mermaids, for example? Can you tell me about them? Where do you think life is more beautiful: on land or under water? Who can burp better: Mermaids or humans? How does dancing go under water? And why are mermaids sometimes scary?

On stage, a five-member choir celebrates an underwater party. They are expecting a guest of honor: the mermaid. As the party slowly gets underway, it becomes clear that not everyone has the same expectations of their guest and different ideas of what makes a successful party. Questions about belonging, community, and the secret longing to be someone else are raised. And the mermaid is waiting in the wings ... or was she already there?

The fairy tale "The Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Andersen served the zaungäste collective as a starting point to talk to people of different ages about their fascination and projections on these unfathomable water creatures. These interviews with children and adults form the basis for a multi-voiced story.

For many years, the zaungäste collective has been working with choirs on stage, in which they are always concerned with the storytelling itself. In "Meerjungfrauen rülpsen besser" they use this method for the first time for Young Theater. The production was already planned last year and now takes place in the 22/23 season.
