A presentation by young bauhaus

The "young bauhaus" is a community of young people who are interested in engaging with art and the Bauhaus. To be "young bauhaus," they need a space, materials, and each other. Therefore, they meet weekly at the temporary bauhaus-archiv and engage in artistic activities together, drawing, discussing, planning, and tattooing lemons.

From May 9 to June 12, the "young bauhaus" presents the exhibition "Unfolding Futures. The Art of Growing Up" at the temporary bauhaus-archiv.

With their artworks, the participants approach the topic of growing up – a phase of change in which one learns many new things and looks back on one's own past for the first time.

When do we actually become an adult, and does this process ever end? What do people leave behind and what do they gain? Who determines the future? What are growing pains, and when you outgrow them, where do you grow up?

The "young bauhaus" participants want to share their personal stories of growing up and outgrowing the world, as well as critically reflect on the struggles and resistance we encounter as we grow up. And they want to take a look into utopian futures, into a world that might also one day grow up. It's about gumball machines and gray hair, putting down roots and developing visions, hiding from the world and revealing ourselves to it.

Growing up is something the "young bauhaus" makers have in common with all people. The young students in Weimar, Dessau, and Berlin also began a new phase of their lives in uncertain social times by attending the Bauhaus. As a school, the Bauhaus was a place of learning and, always, self-discovery for young people. We were inspired by their courage to experiment and their desire for freedom.

Registration for the opening on May 7, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. is requested.
