The Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Oberlausitz (EKBO) and the Stiftung St. Matthäus invite you to the 57th cabinet exhibition ‘The Spirit of vanishing animals’ by the Berlin artist FRANEK.
As early as the 1980s, FRANEK was dealing with the Red List of Threatened Species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). The result was a multi-layered work consisting of paintings, overpainted etchings and drawings on slate tiles, showing animals that are threatened, highly endangered or already extinct. A selection of these works is now being presented at the Evangelisches Zentrum Berlin.
FRANEK lives and works in Berlin and Radegast. She is a painter, graphic artist and illustrator. In addition to her works in these fields, her works also include sculptures, photographs, films and recordings. Most recently, her works were on display in the exhibition ‘The Spirits of Vanishing Animals – The Red List’ from 11 October 2024 to 2 March 2025 at the Galerie Gutshaus Steglitz.
Background
Bishop Christian Stäblein regularly invites artists to present their work in the context of the cabinet exhibitions at the Evangelisches Zentrum Berlin. These exhibitions offer a platform for contemporary artistic positions in painting, graphic art and photography and contribute to enriching the dialogue between church and art.
