From 16 December 2024, the Ukrainian art studio Aza Nizi Maza will be showing impressive works by its young artists at the Schloss-Einkaufszentrum shopping centre in Berlin-Steglitz.
Aza Nizi Maza offers children in Kharkiv, including those with special needs, a creative retreat in the midst of war. Some of the young artists are travelling from Ukraine to Berlin for the first time to present their work in person.
The works, inspired by the rich European artistic tradition, reflect Ukraine's European orientation – a particularly symbolic contribution to the anniversary of the Maidan revolution.
The choice of exhibition venue is significant: the first works were created in 2022 in the subway stations of Kharkiv, where the children sought shelter from Russian rocket fire. To this day, they continue to work in a basement studio, despite daily dangers.
The exhibition is organised by the documentary film collective ‘I AM UKRAINIAN’, which is currently shooting a film about Aza Nizi Maza. The project is supported by the Steglitz-Zehlendorf e.V. town twinning association and the organisations USAID, Nova Ukraine and Wenn nicht jetzt, dann wann.
- The exhibition opening will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the basement, at the exit to the Rathaus Steglitz underground station.
