An Irish Narrative

Ireland and the new capitalism in Europe are almost synonymous. In the period of the "Celtic Tiger", the economic boom from the mid-1990s until the financial crisis around 2008, special efforts were made to attract industry, services and corporate capital to the location and thus restructure the economic situation. The economic slump had a significant impact on society. Today, the economic situation is again characterised by an upswing - but the social conflicts are intensifying.

In the exhibition, different artistic and formal positions are placed in relation to each other. The leading medium is video works.

For example, Elaine Byrne, Mariechen Danz and Michele Horrigan deal with globalised trade and interstate competition for resources. Among other things, they examine the consequences of interaction with the world market on the environment, health and identity.

Sean Lynch and Niamh McCann reflect, among other things, on Ireland's mythical traditions and show conflicts as a consequence of economic development since the 19th century. Nevan Lahart questions the existing Western capitalist world view with installations.

Curatorial team: Ulrich Vogl, Dr Martin Steffens, Rebekka Liebmann

The exhibition is realised in cooperation with Kulturstiftung Schloss Britz, Galerie Kevin Kavanagh (Dublin), Culture Ireland and the Irish Embassy in Germany.
