Permanent exhibition in the historic mayor's room

The external exhibition space of the Mitte Museum in the Tiergarten Town Hall focuses on the period of National Socialism in the Mitte district. The annex is also regularly used for events such as readings and film screenings in order to be a lively meeting place for cultural exchange in the neighborhood.

The City Hall building was constructed between 1935 and 1937 and was the first new building during the National Socialist era for Berlin's municipal administration (architect: Richard Ermisch). The exhibition "The Tiergarten City Hall as a Place of Perpetration and Remembrance" provides insights into the history of the site and discusses forms of dealing with Nazi architecture today.

A digital media table in the historic mayor's room offers more in-depth information. Additional temporary exhibitions focus on Moabit's district history and refer to regional memorials such as the Moabit freight station.

The traces of history that the building holds are understood as a challenge and an opportunity to break new ground in conveying Nazi history in the Mitte district.

In the anteroom of the historic mayor's room, four writers who were persecuted in Berlin-Tiergarten during the National Socialist era will be presented: Kurt Tucholsky (1890-1935), Musa M. Džalilʹ (1906-1944), Albrecht Haushofer (1903-1945), and Nelly Sachs (1891-1970).
