Lecture by Sabine Bode
At the ceremonial opening of our HEIMAT_KUNST festival week, Sabine Bode, author of "The Forgotten Generation" and "War Grandchildren," will give a lecture on the topic "They called themselves post-war children."
In her lecture, Bode explores the fate of the war children, which was simply ignored for over 60 years. This silence was due to a widespread taboo maintained by the adult war children. They survived the horrors of their childhood by numbing themselves. As adults, they lacked emotional access to their most important influences. They called themselves not war children, but post-war children.
Sabine Bode's lecture will be followed by a discussion with the author; the evening will be moderated by artistic director Alina Gause and ensemble member Carl Martin Spengler.
As part of the GALA kickoff of the festival week, the new exhibitions will also be unveiled:
In addition to the photo exhibition featuring images of war children who are connected to the theater in one way or another, you can also visit the video installation "Kriegskinder" (Children of War) by Ina Rommee and Stefan Krauss.
Last but not least, the youth ensemble Junge Bühne im Palais will be showing short excerpts from their world premiere "Die Geschichte eines Trümmerhaufens" (The Story of a Pile of Rubble) in the foyer (premiere on June 26).
