Arts and crafts build bridges
For the second time, the ETAK market will take place in Steglitz-Zehlendorf on 6 April 2025 on the occasion of the European Days of Arts and Crafts (ETAK).
The organisers from Family & Friends e. V. are proud that the concept met with such a positive response last year. And so, once again, interested visitors can experience the unmistakable signature of the regional creative scene around the striking Wappenbrunnen fountain on Ludwig-Beck-Platz. A good 60 exhibitors have registered.
‘The aim of our association Family & Friends for ‘City Culture for the Capital of Culture’ has long been to provide a stage for the diverse and important economic sector of arts, crafts and design. We bring artists and art lovers together at our events, create networks and meeting spaces and thus strengthen the idea of the European Arts and Crafts Days, which take place annually in Berlin for the eleventh time at the beginning of April,’ explains Claudia Scholz from Family & Friends e. V.
‘Arts and crafts build bridges’
This year's ETAK motto is the programme: creative people across Europe open their workshops, shops and studios and allow visitors to take a look behind the scenes. There are virtually no limits to their imagination and dexterity: Using wood, fabric, felt, wire, ceramics, porcelain, glass, canvas, leather, wool, concrete or paper, they create practical, beautiful, surprisingly noble or superfluous ingenious creations that all have one thing in common: They are original - and original. What awaits visitors to the second ETAK market between Moltkestrasse and Augustastrasse reads like a ‘who's who’ of the regional arts and crafts scene - and it's not just the following exhibitors who are worth a visit:
Introducing!
Ukrainian Yulia Hrushko's enchanting Easter and spring decorations are the best example of how art and crafts can be brought closer together: With UkrGifts, she offers gift and decorative items with a Ukrainian soul. Her traditional and colourful petrykivka painting is a very special form of wood painting, around 300 years old and recognised as UNESCO intangible heritage. The traditional patterns and colour combinations are passed down from family to family and can be found on Easter eggs, pendants, magnets, vases, candle holders and boards, for example.

Of course, cheerful crockery with delicate springtime motifs is also part of the matching decoration. Viola Budde specialises in this and is a regular exhibitor. She learnt the craft of filigree porcelain painting at the famous Königliche Porzellan Manufaktur (KPM) Berlin. She considers her profession to be both a hobby and a passion, which is why she set up her own business back in 2007. Each of her pieces is unique. Depending on the season, Viola Budde decorates the porcelain blanks - here, of course, the focus is on Easter or spring motifs! The artist then heats up her hand-painted plates, cups, bowls etc. in her kiln, turning them into colourful works of porcelain art. https://www.handbemaltes-porzellan.de/
Mini pastry artworks enrich this porcelain perfectly! The young Berlin start-up ‘Alfajores de Luca’ consists of Florencia and Gianluca. The two are masters of sweet temptation: they have been producing more than 50 different varieties of mini double biscuits in Berlin since 2024. Fancy a taste? In addition to the classic version with dulce de leche - a creamy milk and caramel cream - there are crazy modern varieties such as the sweet and spicy ‘Chilli Special’ or the trendy ‘Pistacho Kadayif’ with a crunchy chocolate coating, the finest pistachio flavour and irresistibly crispy kadayif. Seasonally only at Easter, they offer flavours such as ‘New York Cheesecake’ or ‘Carrot Cake’. The vegan alfajores also taste great. There are lovingly designed boxes for taking away as a gift or for tea at home. More on Instagram: @alfajoresdeluca.berlin
Small gifts or calendars are also popular when you're invited in spring and at Easter. Wolfram Burckhardt from the Berlin culture publisher Kadmos will be there for the first time. He will be presenting the ‘Kadmos Koolen postcard calendars’ and the artist's calendar ‘Berlin Animals’ with species plates, which is also available as a book. His brand new ‘pouch animals’ are also original - matching the animal calendars: cloth bags with funny sayings such as ‘Eul doch’ (owl) plus owl calendar or ‘Guten Freunden gibt man ein Nüsschen’ (good friends are given a nut) plus squirrel calendar. https://www.kulturverlag-kadmos.de
If you want to venture out into spring as a real eye-catcher, Carlos & Gianni (C & G Klein) from Berlin is the right place for you: the two of them really dress up ladies and gentlemen with their ‘art on the head’: with particularly sophisticated headgear such as hats, caps, beanies, fascinators or hair bands made of modelled wire, fine feathers or warm felt, fashionistas are guaranteed to stand out.
