Spreewald egg painter Dorothea Tschöke presents the art of Sorbian egg painting in traditional Lusatian costumes and invites visitors to try it out.

For 40 years, Dorothea Tschöke has been an ambassador of Lusatia and a well-known egg painter. On this "Sunday in the Nikolaiviertel," she will present the historical connections between the Sorbs and Berlin's urban society. Sorbian culture encompasses far more than the famous Sorbian Easter eggs with their very special decoration techniques.

From the end of the 19th century to the First World War, Sorbian costumes (also called "Wendish," or Slavic costumes) were often seen in Berlin's cityscape. Women and girls from Lusatia came to the city as wet nurses or maids, wearing their native clothing.

Discover this cultural wealth and paint your own Easter eggs in the Sorbian style under supervision!
