Skunk Anansie are back - 30 years after their formation and over eight years after their last studio album, fans can look forward to new music and a European tour.
Skunk Anansie - live in Berlin 2025
Skunk Anansie have always been known for their powerful live performances, led by the charismatic frontwoman Skin, who made the band stand out from the crowd right from the start. They have already performed as the opening act for icons such as U2, David Bowie and Aerosmith. With over 30 years of band history, they are rightly considered one of the most influential British bands.
Their unique mix of punk and timelessly political lyrics makes them more relevant today than ever. This will be clear again in spring 2025, when Skunk Anansie will also play a concert in Berlin on their long-awaited European tour.
When the band was formed in London in 1994, the music scene was heavily influenced by Britpop, dominated by white men and guitars. But Skunk Anansie - consisting of Deborah "Skin" Dyer, Martin "Ace" Kent, Richard "Cass" Lewis and Robbie France - broke this pattern as one of the first mixed-race bands and immediately attracted attention. They positioned themselves not only as classic outsiders, but also as a politically committed band and made a name for themselves primarily through their outstanding live performances in Britrock.
Just a few weeks after their first performance, they got a record deal and released their debut album "Paranoid and Sunburnt" in 1995. They achieved their international breakthrough with their second album "Stoosh" (1996), which went platinum in Great Britain. "Post Orgasmic Chill" followed in 1999 and another highlight: after only five years of band history, they headlined the legendary Glastonbury Festival.
At the beginning of the 2000s, Skunk Anansie announced a break to give the members space for solo projects. But in 2008 they returned triumphantly, with a sold-out reunion tour and the best-of album "Smashes & Trashes". In 2010, their fourth studio album "Wonderlustre" followed, which achieved gold status in several European countries.
The albums "Black Traffic" (2012) and "Anarchytecture" (2016) also built on their earlier successes and were praised by fans and critics alike.
