Since Drum Tao unanimously delighted the audience at the renowned Fringe Festival in Edinburgh in 2004, the musicians have also been considered ambassadors and masters of the Japanese art of drumming in Europe.
In their powerful stage shows, they create a fascinating and rousing connection between the millennia-old tradition of original Taiko drumming, which requires full physical effort, and modern musical elements.
The heart of this mixture of musical meditation and Japanese martial arts are the large traditional Taiko drums that the samurai had beaten before battle to put the warriors into a trance-like frenzy. Powerful, sometimes breathtakingly fast and loud, then again poetic and calm, like the calm before the storm - Drum Tao create an intoxicating pull that is difficult for viewers to escape.
