In 2021, the waterways around the Spree Island, along with the bridges, locks and bank fortifications, were placed under monument protection. The River Bad Berlin project area also lies within this protected area.

As an urban development project funded by the federal and state governments, the Bad Berlin River aims to make the Spree Canal accessible and swimmable as a public space. As early as 2019, the Spree Canal and some bank areas were designated as an urban redevelopment area by the Berlin Senate.

As part of a dialogue-oriented walk, parts of this extensively protected urban area will be explored, points of contact with the Bad Berlin River project will be identified and strategies for reconciling monument preservation concerns, sustainable urban development and future orientation will be discussed. The event will be documented in both audio and video, and a podcast will be published afterwards.

The walk begins at 11 a.m. at the Monbijou Bridge in front of the Bodemuseum (Am Kupfergraben, 10117 Berlin).
