Leaps in Time, 1972–87 / 2021–23
The exhibition brings together photographic leaps in time in gripping pairings full of humor and melancholy. The black and white photographs from West Berlin from the 1970s and 1980s are juxtaposed with color photographs from 2021 to 2023 in the reunified city.

Street photography in the best sense, taken in the middle of the rush of passers-by, changing moments and motifs. Actually photographed again in the same place, usually freely improvising on a black and white theme.
But people are always the focus of Renate von Mangoldt's photographs, who made a name for herself primarily as a portrait photographer of writers.
Because the photos relate to each other in many ways. Not just in terms of content and location, but also formally. Only together do they develop their power. They talk about the time and tell a story themselves. How has the world changed, how has time changed, how has the city changed, how people have changed!
Renate von Mangoldt
The photographer Renate von Mangoldt
Renate von Mangoldt, born in Berlin in 1940, lived in Erlangen from 1950. From 1961 to 1963 attended the Bavarian State College for Photography in Munich. Starting in 1964 as a photographer at the Berlin Literary Colloquium, she has worked in Berlin ever since. Her work has been widely published, shown in exhibitions and is represented in numerous public and private collections.
Publication about the exhibition
The book “Berlin Revisited” with an essay by the poet and political scientist Brigitte Oleschinski is being published by Steidl in Göttingen to accompany the exhibition. The curator of the exhibition is the Berlin photographer, author and gallery owner André Kirchner.
